This is actually pretty kewl, the camera used for Street View is a 11 lens camera system that captures 30 frames/sec of images, and join them together to create this virtual 3D street view.

Kewl… looks like some space invader type equipment.
Someone spotted the actual van that captured all the data on street view, and shot some great pictures.
